Jason Kirkwood, Lead Guitar and Vocals – Steve “Bud” Schumann, Vocals and Rhythm Guitar -Jimmy Maldonado, Drums – Jonahs David, Bass

Jason Kirkwood.

Lead guitarists They use a variety of techniques to create lead guitar lines, including scales, modes, arpeggios, licks, riffs, alternate picking, sweep picking, economy picking, and legato. Lead guitar players need to be creative and integrate all of their guitar skills. For example, to become good at improvising lead guitar licks, players need to work on lead guitar phrasing, ear training, guitar technique, scales, arpeggios, and fretboard visualization

Steve “Bud” Schmann.

Steve started singing in the Children’s Choir in Gilroy as a young boy. About the same time, in third grade at Glen View Elementary, he took up the cornet. Both experiences were wonderful ways to make noise civilly and learn how to read music.

Early musical influences were his parents’ favorites: Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and the Smothers Brothers! Those faves led to discovering Ricky Nelson. Beatles, Stones, Monkees. The Doors. To Creedence. Jefferson Airplane. Santana. And the Grateful. Dead.

Steve’s more of a crooner than a wailer; he knows all the songs. Steve has sung with them all: The weird vocal inflections of Dylan, Neil Young, Janis, Ray Davies, and Joni made it okay for him to follow his voice wherever it wanted to go. And studying the legends led to finding the influences: Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, Rev. Gary Davis, Elmore James, John Lee Hooker… then discovering their devotees: Van Morrison, Robbie Robertson, Allman Brothers, Clapton, Rod Stewart, Humble Pie, and Peter Green.

Steve suffers to sing the blues. Like Jim Morrison and “Riders on the Storm”, like Mick doing “Midnight Rambler”… He started the Dogmeats in the ’70s playing across the Bay Area and fueling Murphy’s Exception in SLO County at the turn of the century. The JUKE JOINT JAMMERS has been his musical path with Jason Kirkwood since 2018! #NitroRockNBlues

JimmyMaldonado.

A rhythm guitarist is often while other musicians play the main tune or the singer sings. Rhythm guitarists should have a large chord vocabulary and understand what chords and versions of those chords will work in a song. They also need to be able to keep time and not race ahead or lag behind

Jonahs David.

A musical childhood environment was a driving force for member Jonahs David to play live music. Piano lessons starting at 6 years old and having a percussionist for a father, gave him a strong love for music early on.

Playing punk rock on the drums was the first musical endeavor. Taking after Dad, playing drums seemed an easy fit, but it was the low end that eventually pulled him in. Bass players like Geezer Butler, Mel Schacher, John Paul Jones, and John Entwistle to name a few have influenced his bass style and love for playing the four-string. He loves playing many styles of music including classic rock, punk rock, grunge, blues, etc. Jonahs is very excited to be the newest member of Juke Joint Jammers
